The Evolution of Smart Phones (1995-2017) – What’s next?


Back in the early 90’s imagining life without phones when you have to write notes manually and to communicate you used telephones there was no concept of texting, you have to carry a pocket camera to capture pictures, to search something informative you have to pick a large Wikipedia and search page by page the stuff you want to include. Who would have imagined that time that you would be carrying the world in your pocket in future?


Smartphones are the most beneficial invention of the decade; now consider life without Smartphones isn’t it tough? The world is advancing and so the smartphones are growing bigger and making our daily lives better, offering multiple features including games, entertainment, exciting camera filters, connecting the world via messenger apps (application software) and a lot more which have not only ease our daily tasks but also provides us ways for social networking which helps us in bridging the gaps between the people who are not easy to be reached.

1995-2000

In the mid 1990 first time the term “Smart Phone” was used when IBM come up with the phone called Simon which just had an address book, calendar, pager, calculator and fax machine it was the smartest invention of that time since then the evolution of Smart Phones risen and in the year 2000 Ericsson released a phone R380 having a resistive touchscreen. The year 2000 ended with the release of the first built in camera phone“J-SH04” released in Japan.


2000-2005

This era would be termed as the BlackBerry era. Formerly known as “RIM” the first invention by RIM was the pager in 1998 later in 2000 it evolved to a palm-sized wireless handheld and further in 2002 the true blackberry was invented which had voice calls in it since then the blackberry evolved featuring multiple applications and get famed for its wider size and QWERTY keyboard. This period gave a moderate rise to the smart phones and ended with the release of Moto Razr V3 which was a stylish phone and created a good following.

2005-2010


The real revolutionary era for the Smartphones when apple conquered it all with the release of iPhone; sleek in structure, having a multi-touch interface, a high storage capacity and eye captivating graphics. The 

the phone became famous for its outstanding features and attracted large audience towards itself. In 2008 Google unveiled the market with the release of first Android “HTC G1”, Later in 2008, Sony released Experia with the windows interface and front faced camera for video conferencing. HTC dream was also the smart release of this era, in 2010 the iPhone modify its features and evolved to iPhone 4.
During the same duration, Samsung launches “Galaxy S” with new functionalities like tracker which can help you in tracking the location and it also allowed access to social networking sites. The year ended with the release of Nexus S which used “Ginger Bread OS (Operating System)” but on the whole, this year proved to be a dynamite evolutionary Smartphone era.


2010-2015

This era gave decline to the BlackBerry market and the mobiles supporting Windows Interface, On the other hand it gave rise to the Samsung market, android market raised its users to 60% whereas iPhone evolved to 6s with a little bit of improvement in every version, due to its cost-effectiveness it became slightly difficult for a layman to afford it and that’s how most of the people switched to android. Concluding this era Samsung played a great role in raising the android market with the release of “Samsung Galaxy S5”. Nexus 5 was also released in this era which later modified to the updated version.

2017


In 2017 the latest version of iPhone was revealed; dual camera, stunning graphics, water-resistant design and it was termed as the luxury phone. Samsung comes up with “Galaxy S7 Edge” offering the curved display, cartoonish interface and was considered one of the brilliant innovation worldwide. The other companies Motorola, Huawei and Sony also modify their phones earlier or later in 2016 but on the conclusion, Samsung prevailed this year because of its strong battery power, high-quality camera, exciting applications and multitasking features. 




What’s next?

With the passage of time Smartphones had grown from handheld to pocket computing, seeing after so many improvisations it’s difficult to predict what’s next? Who’s going to rule the world of Smartphones? iPhone holds a bright future or Samsung will drive the market taking itself to a new big level?  What will be the future of Nokia? Ah! So many questions for 2018! The evolution of Smartphones since 20 years was so surprising that is had left us with curiosity about the new innovations in the Smartphones so let’s be patient and wait for the exciting revelations in the Smartphones.
